On October 11, 2019, France is holding back under its breath. Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, actively wanted after the five-fold murder of his family, was reportedly arrested leaving a plane in Scotland. The French authorities quickly understood thanks to DNA analyzes that the man arrested was not the one they had been tracking for 8 years. Several months after this fiasco, the mystery surrounding the main suspect is still just as thick. In an attempt to dispel the opaque haze that surrounds this criminal case, the Netflix platform has in turn looked at this incredible story. Since July 1, 2020, an episode of the Extraordinary Investigations series has been focusing on the Dupont de Ligonnès case. The magazine Society, which devotes an entire issue to the investigation, has broken sales records. In a book released in 2017, two authors also try to unravel the mystery. They return in particular to marital crisis crossed by Xavier and his wife Agnès.

The many infidelities of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès

Because if Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès lied to his relatives about his professional and financial situation, above all he would have cheated on his wife for many years. In the book Sans pitié pour les siens (éd. Poche, 2017), Béatrice Fonteneau and Jean-Michel Laurence relate that before leaving Nantes, the father of the family would have “reconnected with four women”. Extramarital affairs that did not seem to have escaped his wife’s notice. “Agnes was quite lucid. She knew that Xavier had conquests. She suspected that he should take advantage of his travels”, we can read in the pages of the story. However, the authors indicate that the former mistresses of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès would apparently not have agreed to see the one who will soon know suspected of having murdered his whole family.
