WWE NXT Preview of September 16, 2020

Priest faces his first test as champion against Thatcher

Timothy Thatcher wanted the first shot at Damian Priest’s newly won North American title, and now it does.

Facing Priest last month, Thatcher was offended by the bad ways she believes The Archer of Infamy behaves like a champion. Last week, she also pointed to what she perceived as glitches in the Priest game during her last Thatch-as-Thatch-can class.

But Priest had a near flawless performance at NXT TakeOver XXX, prevailing over the top four NXT Superstars in a ladder match to claim the vacant North American Championship.

Can Priest deflect Thatcher’s challenge, or will his infamy be short-lived?

Breezango to defend tag team titles against Imperium

Breezango’s five-year journey as a team finally led to championship gold last month when Imperium was shocked. But can lightning strike twice for Tyler Breeze and Fandango when they put the NXT Tag Team Championship on the line against the former champions?

Breeze & Fandango did wonders to complete their long road to title victory. But it wasn’t enough to earn the respect of Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner. Imperium still views NXT’s trendiest duo as an embarrassment to all they stand for, and they have vowed to make Breezango’s NXT tag team title the shortest ever.

Will Breeze & Fandango find a way to prevail, or will it be The Age of Imperium again in the black and gold brand?

Io Shirai to face Shotzi Blackheart in a non-title match

Io Shirai and Shotzi Blackheart forged a serendipitous alliance last week – that is, until Blackheart set his sights on Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship.

Now she will have the opportunity to prove herself against the best when she goes one-on-one against Sky Genie in a non-title match.

In her last encounter with The Robert Stone Brand, Blackheart’s backstage fight with Aliyah spilled over to Shirai, knocking down the NXT Women’s Champion. That was the entire reason why Shirai needed to take up arms with Blackheart, and together they finished off Aliyah and Stone. But Shirai objected to Blackheart putting her hands on her title, prompting a tense look down.

Can Blackheart prove herself worthy of a potential championship shot, or will Shirai painfully remind her of the pecking order in the NXT women’s division?

Drake Maverick will team up with Killian Dain to face Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong

We have seen numerous odd unions over the years in sports entertainment, but perhaps few have been as unlikely as Killian Dain and Drake Maverick.

However, They will be tasked with coexisting when they face Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish of The Undisputed ERA.

Both Dain and Maverick were caught in the crossfire of Adam Cole’s bitter rivalry with Pat McAfee, and were eliminated as a result. Maverick later failed to bounce back in a singles match with Kyle O’Reilly, but Dain helped avoid an undisputed post-match effectiveness thrashing before taking Maverick down as well.

Maverick returned the favor last week, coming to Dain’s aid before taking another hit from The Beast of Belfast.

Can they stay on the same side against Strong & Fish?
