Ecatepec, Mex.- Almost 5,000 people over 60 years of age received the COVID-19 vaccine in the two centers that were installed in Ecatepec during the first day of vaccination.
Since the early morning hundreds of people began to form in long lines, without a healthy distance and many of them with their masks incorrectly placed.
There was no order, the lines turned to the vaccination centers, as many people arrived without appointments. The heat wreaked havoc on many of the older adults.
Due to the high demand that was presented, the state Health Secretariat confirmed that 17 and not 10 vaccination centers will be opened. “They will be announced on the official platforms in order to avoid crowds, so it is important that they take into account that this process will take place over the next three weeks.”
In the cultural and sports center Las Américas, more than 4 thousand people gathered, double the number expected by federal and state authorities, responsible for the inoculation centers, which lengthened the waiting time and the despair of the people who already they had been in the sun for several hours.
“Initially, the application of 1,200 vaccines was planned in each of the modules, but due to the high number of applicants, 4,800 doses were channeled to this place,” said the mayor of this municipality, Fernando Vilchis.
The mayor explained that in the Americas two vaccination modules were placed with a capacity to house 250 people at the same time each.
“It is expected that each of the 10 vaccination centers (today the installation of eight begins), will operate for 25 days until the nearly 180 thousand older adults who live in Ecatepec are immunized, since the federal government allocated 200 thousand doses of the Sinovac vaccine to cover the population of the elderly in the municipality ”.
The other centers will be located in Chiconautla 3000, Parque Bicentenario, Deportivo Ejidal Emiliano Zapata, Centro Cívico Río de la Luz, Deportivo Bicentenario Carlos Hank González, Centro Cívico Muzquiz and Centro Cívico Chamizal.
