will protect 67% of people Vaccination target

President Joe Biden’s goal of administering 100 million vaccines in the first 100 days actually means that about 67% of Americans should be protected against COVID-19 during that period, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday.

Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said the president’s goal is 100 million vaccines, not people. Current vaccines require two doses.

Fauci said it will be difficult to hit the target even as the United States has recently managed to deliver vaccines to about a million people every day. He explained that it will be more difficult to achieve once people start vaccinating outside of hospitals and nursing homes.

Fauci also said during CBS television’s “Face the Nation” program that he supports a national commission to understand some of the problems in coordinating the response to COVID-19 at the state and local level because “we cannot tell states that stand on your own ”.

Ron Klain, Biden’s White House chief of staff, said that 100 million vaccines in 100 days is “a very bold and ambitious goal” but warned that the government will do even more if possible.
