The Belgian wins from the pole and remains with the runner-up, thanks to his teammate
The podium was completed by Nyck de Vries and Sébastien Buemi
Stoffel Vandoorne has won from the pole the last race of the 2019-2020 Formula E season, the sixth in a row in Berlin. For this reason, the Belgian is finally the new runner-up, although he was touched by a Sébastien Buemi who was finally overtaken by Nyck de Vries in the final laps in the fight for second position.
Vandoorne was able to hold the lead from the start, despite the interesting aggressiveness of his teammate, De Vries, who activated his first Attack Mode of the day especially early – with 36 minutes remaining – something that he lost position with an unbridled René Rast who signed an incredible podium yesterday. In fact, the Audi rookie owned the fastest race lap at the time.
The Belgian rider did his own right afterwards to defend himself against De Vries and that left Buemi in the lead, albeit only by six tenths. De Vries was able to overtake Rast when Vandoorne did so with Buemi, who had to activate Attack Mode right after, but the Swiss was so close to car number 5 that he almost took Vandoorne ahead. Buemi rejoined third of the play, millimeters ahead of Rast.
With 28 minutes remaining, Rast activated his first Attack Mode just as De Vries did it for the second time, causing Vandoorne to have to defend himself and do the same one more tare turn. Robin Frijns, fifth at the moment, had not yet activated it once
With two minutes and fifteen seconds to go, De Vries managed to overtake Buemi after several laps of pressure, thus awarding a double to Mercedes in the best style of F1 and the drivers’ runner-up to Vandoorne, who escaped ahead. Things would not change and the double for Mercedes was completed by Buemi with the podium despite the attacks of a Rast that closed his debut in the category with a podium yesterday and a fourth place today.
