The adventure ends for Valérie. The maestro was eliminated by Kévin, on Saturday, September 12, 2020, from Don’t forget the lyrics on France 2. Originally from Belgium, the 44-year-old candidate, disturbing Nolwenn Leroy double, will have finally lost on a song that she yet knew by heart, La bohème by Charles Aznavour. For a mistake on a word she thought was the right one. For a lack of understanding for which she still blames herself. She confides to Femme Actuelle her immense disappointment at not having been able to go as far as her compatriot Renaud, the 3rd in the ranking of the musical game. But she is still proud of her very nice career.
Current Woman: The adventure ends. Did you think you would go this far in the game?
V .: Honestly, no. I didn’t expect to get that far. But on the other hand, there is still a taste of too little. After the defeat, there is a lack.
As you went along, did you set yourself a higher and higher goal to achieve?
V .: I have the impression that the more we advance, the more we say to ourselves that we can go even further. We are becoming more and more greedy. And above all, we become addicted. It’s adrenaline, it generates stress that feels good.
You were eliminated at the stage of The new song with Bohemian by Charles Aznavour. How did you feel at that time?
V .: Precisely, when we were talking about my hearing ear, that’s what played tricks on me. When I saw that it was La bohème by Charles Aznavour, I was happy because I know it by heart. It was one of the first songs I studied. In one of the sentences, instead of saying “From the line of a breast, from the curve of a hip”, I said “from the curve of an orange” because I thought that was the right word. Phonetically that’s what I heard. I never thought of going to see the lyrics again. If I had read them, I would have noticed that it was not the word “orange”. I was convinced that what I was singing was right. Studying with the ear is good. But sometimes it’s better to check the text. It’s bitchy because when I saw the title, I thought it was good for me. I was happy like everything. As a result, the disappointment was much more intense. It will serve as a lesson to me, I will pay more attention to the words.
Isn’t it an almost similar mistake that happened to Renaud on a song by Nolwenn Leroy?
V .: Yes, he was listening to a version of Nolwenn Leroy where she didn’t say the “but” in the song Broken. Except that she deposited the lyrics with the “but” to SACEM. The production is based on this text. This is also advice that I will give to all those who want to participate. To check with the texts of the SACEM because, sometimes, on the Internet the lyrics are not necessarily the correct one to a word.
Initially, you wanted to indulge yourself by shopping with your family. Now that you have obtained such a prize, do you have other plans for yourself or your family?
V .: With my husband, later, we would like to buy a house in Italy, in Puglia.
Your travel plan to New Zealand to follow in the footsteps of the saga of Lord of the Rings does he clarify?
V .: Yes, it remains in our plans and to go with the children. Just like shopping with the family. I had promised them, I will have to go there! (laughs).
Was there a moment, good or bad, that struck you the most on the show?
V .: It is my defeat. I remain with a touch of bitterness because of the song that I knew by heart. Because of a misunderstood word. It would have been different if it had been on a song that I hadn’t learned. It’s a shame, I could have gone further. But also, the most striking thing is when Nagui told me that I was the 10th greatest maestro. I realized my dream of being part of the Masters.
What were your relations with Nagui?
V .: It’s funny it’s as if I knew him, seeing him every day on television. He is very human and reassuring. Between shootings of the shows, he always had a little advice or a nice little note to give me courage. I was not disappointed with Nagui.
Social distancing should not have facilitated the rapprochement. We could see that you were both holding back so as not to hug each other when you got the 20,000 euros of “The final“…
V .: Exactly. This is really the only regret. We want something warmer.
Is there a particular maestro that impressed you the most?
V .: I admit that I would not like to immediately fall on Kevin or Margaux during the Masters. Toni is also impressive. But afterwards, we don’t know which song we will fall on. Even the greatest maestros don’t know all the songs. It is based on the draw.
This will give you the opportunity to meet Renaud eventually …
V .: Absolutely. We may not immediately have a Belgium match against Belgium. But why not ? It would be nice to meet him. He has a great course.
Are you going to take some time off before resuming your activity at the hair salon?
V .: No, I will work again immediately. But since I have to train for the Masters, I will re-solicit clients with my headphones. For one last time!
What did your daughter Rachel tell you that helped you revise about your amazing journey?
V .: She is very proud of me. She understood my disappointment with La bohème.
And now, are you going to coach your daughter Rachel for a possible participation in three years, when she will be of age?
V .: Why not ? If she wants it! It could be cool.
