Toulon full-back Gervais Cordin will undergo surgery for a serious ankle sprain on Tuesday. He will be absent for two months.
Hard blow for Rugby Club Toulonnais! He will be deprived of his rear Gervais Cordin for the whole of December and all of January. The one who turns 22 on December 10 will indeed have to undergo surgery on Tuesday for a serious ankle sprain, and will be absent for eight weeks, the Var club reported on Monday. Cordin was injured last week during training with the XV of France in Marcoussis during the preparation of the match against Italy (36-5 victory for the Blues) as part of the Autumn Nations Cup.
He returned to Toulon at the end of the week, as agreed with the medical staff of the RCT. Cordin could not therefore honor his first cape in blue. This season, he played five Top 14 matches with Toulon (all as a starter) and scored three tries. This is his second season with the Var club, where he arrived in the summer of 2019 from Grenoble, his training club.
Following this ankle surgery, Cordin will miss at least nine games: against Stade Français, Clermont, Bordeaux-Bègles, Bayonne and Brive in Top 14, and against Sale and the Scarlets (back and forth) in the Champions Cup. It would also be very uncertain for the start of the 6 Nations Tournament (Italy – France on February 6) if Fabien Galthié wanted to select him. But with Anthony Bouthier, Thomas Ramos or even Brice Dulin, the competition is tough for the n ° 15.
