René Rast will compete in the 2020-21 season in Formula E as an official Audi driver. A new challenge in his career that comes after he made his mark in the DTM. However, the Minden pilot has won three titles in four seasons, garnering a total of 24 victories along the way, 20 poles, 14 fastest laps and 1,113 points, all in 77 races. Without a doubt a balance that places you among the best drivers in the history of the DTM and that allows you to make the leap with Audi to Formula E with a few stripes on your jacket.
The three-time champion René Rast has stated in the first place: «It is a very special feeling to be among the three best DTM drivers in history. I would never have dreamed of that. I joined the DTM only four years ago. Being among the best in the series is incredible. Team Rosberg’s mechanics and engineers have contributed greatly to the success of recent years. Audi has given me the opportunity to make a dream come true and it has provided me with incredible cars over the last four years that have allowed me to fight for the best positions and win these titles.
Asked about his desire to buy some of the cars he has won in the DTM, Rast explained: “Championship winning cars always go to the Audi museum. But nevertheless, I intend to buy at least one car from each generation with which I have become champion. As I remember, I would like to have a car with a V8 engine, or what is the same, in the 2017 model. And also to have a car with a four-cylinder turbo engine. They have been impressive cars, true prototypes. It’s hard to see that ‘Class 1’ cars go to the museum after two years, but we must be happy with what they have achieved. ‘

Although René Rast will compete in Formula E, the German does not rule out continuing in the DTM under the GT3 format: «I’d be happy if I could keep driving in the DTM, but nothing is certain yet. We have to wait and see if we do a double program in Formula E and DTM the crashes of dates that would occur. I would love to do it because the DTM has always been my home. If I could get two more titles I would be at the level of Bernd Schneider, but that is not the only reason I would like to continue. With everything, the main reason is because the DTM is simply in my heart».
