Three guerrillas killed in northern Paraguay, announces the president

Three men from the guerrilla group Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP) wanted by the security forces for kidnappings and murders of civilians and uniformed men were killed by an elite military group in the north of the country, Paraguayan President Mario Abdo reported on Saturday Benitez.

“Our FTC [Fuerza de Tarea Conjunta] reports three people killed belonging to the criminal group of the North in a confrontation, “said the president on his Twitter account.

He was referring to the so-called Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP), which declares itself to be Marxist-Leninist and operates since 2008 in the department of Concepción, near the border with Brazil, one of the poorest in the country.

The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Twitter that “the clashes would have occurred between the #FTC and #EPP cells.”

Interior Minister Euclides Acevedo said that the irregulars confronted members of the FTC – made up of police and military – when they were killed.

The government assigns the EPP the kidnapping two months ago of former Paraguayan vice president Oscar Denis, whose whereabouts are unknown.

The confrontation between the uniformed men and the members of the guerrilla group took place on Friday night in Cerro Guazú, about 50 km from the city of Pedro Juan Caballero, on the border with Ponta Porá (Brazil).

The incident occurred 29 km from the scene of a confrontation last September when two 11-year-old girls, daughters of two prominent members of the guerrilla group, died in a confrontation with the Army that attacked one of their camps.

The EPP is a split from the leftist political party “Free Homeland” that participated in elections 20 years ago.

More than fifty murders are attributed to him, including the police and the military, as well as more than a dozen kidnappings.
