During this week, one of the news that occupied the agenda of various media and captured the attention of hundreds of users was the closure of Banco Famsa.

The liquidation process of this banking and savings entity was formalized after Banco de México (Banxico) and the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) decided to revoke its license as a multiple banking institution for inappropriate efforts.

In this sense, they detailed that they detected that the bank had carried out operations and credits above the regulatory limits, among other actions that put at risk the interests of savers and financial stability.

« After an orderly, coordinated and transparent process of review by the financial authorities, today the Governing Board of the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) notified Banco Ahorro Famsa of the revocation of its license, due to inappropriate risk management, operations and credits granted to related parties of the group above the regulatory limits, improper records in said operations, and recurring non-compliance with various regulatory provisions, « the organizations said in a statement.

What’s left for customers

With this, various reports have recommended clients of the banking institution to withdraw their savings as soon as possible, while for those who are clients of its lines of credit, the council is aligned to pay the entire loan so as not to generate a negative report with the Credit Bureau.

At this point, it is important to mention that according to the Basic Personal Credit Indicators prepared by Banco de México, BanCoppel, Banco Azteca and Banco Famsa, which concentrated 87.5 percent of the total loans approved for consumption between March 2018 and February 2019, same that serve the population located at the base of the social structure.

In the middle of the liquidation process and after not offering service yesterday, Banco Famsa has announced the service hours it will have from now on and the services it will offer in the process of liquidation.

As indicated by the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB), from July 2 Banco Famsa branches will have a Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Sunday, while the services they will provide will be the following:

Clarifications
Presentation of requests for return of resources in the bank supported by the IPAB
Payment of credits

It is important to mention that these hours could vary branch deliveries, since some establishments could restrict their working hours as a measure in the face of a health emergency.

Options for customers

It is important to mention that clients who want to know in detail the situation of their savings as well as the outstanding payments of their credits, may do so at the branch or from a platform enabled by the IPAB, from where they can also register to obtain the return of resources.

For those clients who have up to 9 thousand pesos They will be able to do the process in a hundred percent digital way from the aforementioned platform, from where Banco BBVA México will send them a code with which they can make a withdrawal at the bank’s ATMs.

For customers who exceed this figure they must register on the IPAB site and within 48 hours they will receive a check by courier.

As for the users of any credit card or loan, users must pay it in full so as not to affect their credit history.

For this, several options have been enabled. It is possible to go to the branch to obtain a reference number and make deposits at both Banco Famsa, BBVA México or Oxxo.

In case of not being able to go to the branch, the reference number can be obtained dialing the number 81 8299-8877 of the Banco Famsa customer service center that will continue operating.
