A fifth installment of the popular franchise about the monstrous hunter has been rumored since the middle of last year, when the property was already in the hands of Disney, after the acquisition of 20th Century Fox. However, just this week news that a new project of Predator is on the way, with the director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Avenue) in command.
According to an exclusive from Deadline, 20th Century Studios (thus renamed by the House of the Mouse) has agreed with Trachtenberg his arrival at the director’s chair for an upcoming film foray of the Predator brand. As scriptwriter of the project is Patrick Aison, whose pen previously collaborated on the adrenaline-pumping series Jack Ryan and Treadstone.
For his part, before taking the Predator by the horns, Dan Trachtenberg already explored the genres of horror and science fiction with his film Cloverfield Avenue 10 (2016), which received a critical acclaim. He has also directed chapters of the popular series Black Mirror and The Boys.
While there is no information on the plot, it has been said that the projected fifth installment of Predator will overlook what was exhibited in the immediately preceding film, directed by Shane Black. The Predator (2018) received very low ratings at the time, despite becoming the highest grossing film in the franchise.
In August 2019, rumors spread that Disney was planning reboots of both Predator and Alien, with the guarantee of not denying them an R classification (for those over 17 years old). One year later, Ridley scott confirmed that there would be a new movie about “the eighth passenger.”
«That is in process. We follow a route to try to reinvent the wheel with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, “declared the famous producer. ‘Whether or not we go straight back to that is in doubt because Prometheus worked very well. But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like: ‘Has the Alien himself, the face-eater, the breast-crusher already run out of strength? Do you have to rethink the whole thing and just use the word for the franchise? ‘ That is always the fundamental question.
Excited to have these iconic monsters back on the big screen?

Toño Guzmán I have a very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
