The pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and AstraZeneca reported that they do not have production of vaccines against COVID-19 to sell to the leaders of the Association of Governors of National Action (Goan).
According to the Goan, the commercial representatives of the pharmaceutical companies detailed that they could have a supply of doses from December or until 2022.
“Astrazeneca and Pfizer commercial representatives inform us that there is no availability in production. the supply would be from December or next year, “wrote the Goan on his Twitter account.
However, they reiterated that they would continue in direct contact with the laboratories of the vaccines that have already been approved for use in Mexico.
The announcement of the PAN governors comes days after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador approved that states and private entities could acquire and buy vaccines against COVID-19.
“I want to say that I have instructed the Secretary of Health, Dr. Jorge Alcocer, so that today a statement is issued stating that any company or local government that wants to acquire vaccines to apply them in Mexico has authorization, only that they must attach to the request the contract for the purchase of vaccines, the quantity and the pharmaceutical, ”the President announced on January 22 at his press conference.
The president affirmed that it is for everyone in general, both for the public and private sectors, so he insisted that they must present the contract that they have already purchased the vaccine, when it will arrive and that it is from an authorized pharmaceutical company, “for example , Pfizer, AstraZeneca, those that are already authorized, that are being applied in the world, that have been authorized in Mexico or are about to be authorized and also where they are going to apply them ”.
“The latter so that there are no duplications because there is a national vaccination plan. We are going to fulfill the commitment to vaccinate all Mexicans. The vaccine is universal and free. We are applying that plan and purchasing the vaccines. We already have the contracts, we already have the budget and we have decided to vaccinate first the doctors and nurses of COVID hospitals, “he said.
