Eurosport Events has published the first draft of the 2021 WTCR calendar. In an attempt to return to normality, provided that COVID-19 allows it, the promoter has returned to his usual championship format with a first phase of the season in Europe and an Asian tour in the final stretch of the same. In this way, the WTCR 2021 campaign is drawn on a basis of eight events, starting in May at the Hungaroring and ending six in November within the framework of the Macau GP. In this aspect, the series will feature up to three appointments on Asian soil.
After an atypical 2020 season and disputed entirely in Europe by the COVID-19 pandemic, the WTCR recovers its usual format, as well as iconic scenarios within the series. With a concentrated start in the month of May in Hungary and Slovakia, the championship will have its now traditional test at the Nürburgring Nordschleife at the beginning of June, the same month in which the contest returns to the Vila Real street circuit. The last event on European soil will be at MotorLand between July 9 and 11. The appointment in Alcañiz and the rest of the events of the season will be held in a two-race format to contain costs.

With five events in Europe, the contest keeps the option of including new events in the old continent if the Asian tour cannot be carried out. Be that as it may and if the Eurosport plan is confirmed, WTCR will have an event at the Korean circuit of Inje Speedium after the summer break between October 8 and 10. Later, the series will travel to China to play an event on a circuit yet to be determined and will end its 2021 season in the framework of the Macau GP, test that will be held between November 19 and 21 next year.
