The World’s Last Blockbuster, located in Oregon, will try to pursue a new business model for a short time. And it is that the branch reached an agreement with Airbnb to become a rental property in September. So some will have the opportunity to spend a night in the emblematic place, which has been adapted so that the hosts can enjoy the entire catalog of movies and video games available in the store.
Over the past few months, we have missed regular visits from friends, neighbors, and tourists from all over the world. Therefore, we will open our store to three groups of quarantined Deschutes County guests for a socially estranged movie night.
It is worth mentioning that Sandi harding, owner of the last Blockbuster, will only allow the branch to become an Airbnb for three days – from September 18 to 20. In addition, there are several limitations. The first one is that those interested must live in Deschutes. The second: it will only be possible to rent one night. They promise that the place will be an “ode” to the magic that the brand once had, since no one will deny that the company was a benchmark in the sector before the arrival of streaming.

You may think that the rental price will be quite high due to the short period of availability, but no. It will only be necessary to pay 4 dollars (3.4 euros or 90 Mexican pesos) for the experience. The “problem” is that surely hundreds of people will be interested in spending the night at the last Blockbuster on the planet. Sandi notes that she accepted this proposal as a thank you to the Deschutes community for your support in keeping the branch alive.
You yourself can see that the Blockbuster was specially decorated to receive people. The owner focused on presenting a nostalgic 90s setting, the golden age of the company. In fact, guests will find a Sony VHS player and an old TV. They will also have free pizza, soft drinks, sweets and popcorn during their stay. Of course, they will also receive a package with face masks and disinfectant wipes, because we must not forget that we are still experiencing a pandemic.
Whether you want to stay up until dawn or pass out on the couch, we’ve created the perfect space with a sleeper sofa, beanbags, and pillows to keep you comfortable with the “new releases” from the ’90s. And remember, the store it’s all yours for the night!
