Niantic is celebrating this month, as it was 4 years ago that it launched Pokémon GO, the successful adaptation of the mobile RPG franchise. As every year, the developer prepared an event to gather trainers to catch Pokémon, only this year’s edition had to be held at a distance due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). This, however, did not prevent the event from being a success and Niantic today shared interesting details of what the players accomplished in the celebration.

Last weekend the Pokémon GO Fest 2020 took place, which was not exclusive to a city in the world, but this year was available to all players through the Internet. The event was a great success and Niantic shared today, 1 day later, that millions of players participated in the event and that in total they caught close to 1 billion Pokémon and that on average each player who participated walked 15 kilometers.

In case you missed it: Pokémon Trainers managed to unlock all bonuses for Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

A feature that was part of the celebrations was an invasion by the Team GO Rocket, but the coaches stood up to it and managed to beat the organization’s recruits more than 58 million times.

The Pokémon GO Fest 2020 also promoted interaction with other players through gifts and Niantic confirmed that this worked very well, as there were more than 55 million gifts sent during the event. Niantic invited players to send their photographs celebrating and with thousands of them organized a commemorative image that we share below. If you enlarge the image, you may find yours.

What happened at the Pokémon GO Fest 2020?

In case you have not been able to join the event or you have not found out about it, let us tell you that it was held last Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26. During this weekend (in total 20 hours), all players could find selected Pokémon in the wild apart from other interesting bonuses, but the experience was more attractive if you bought a ticket for the event in exchange for $ 279 MXN.

The first day consisted of rotating 5 habitats that more than a dozen major Pokémon appeared in each one more frequently, such as Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, Snorlax, and some exclusive to the event.

On the second day, things changed a bit, as Team GO Rocket took over the celebration and then the event focused on battles with members of this organization, although it was still possible to find several Pokémon in the wild. The most interesting thing is that during the event the odds of finding shiny creatures (varicoloured) were increased, there were more encounters with Team GO Rocket, more Raids, legendary, global missions, apart from the fact that it was possible to find Dark Mewtwo for the first time, Rotom in its washing form and Pokémon Victoria, Victini. Did you manage to capture them?

In case you missed it: Pokémon GO has just turned 4 years old and continues to record millions of profits.
