As you may know, the Nintendo Switch had two pretty big third party releases planned this year. One of these was Bravely Default II by Square Enix, which sadly was delayed until 2021. The second is about DOOM Eternal, which we have heard about in recent months. Now, a major US retailer has mentioned that this id Software title has been canceled.
Since yesterday, several people have reported that GameStop sent them an email mentioning that the Switch version of DOOM Eternal has been canceled. But nevertheless, there is talk of a cancellation of the physical edition, since the game will be distributed only digitally. This was the message a Bethesda representative shared with IGN about it:
“While DOOM Eternal is on track for an imminent digital-only release on the Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release has resulted in canceled pre-orders.”
Without a doubt, this is a rare move, especially considering that none of the companies involved made an official statement until all the confusion began. Similarly, It is unknown if DOOM Eternal is still running for some point in 2020, or if it has been pushed back to 2021.
