The Oppo X 2021 is an amazing mobile with a rollable screen capable of resizing

At the INNO Day 2020 event, Oppo has officially presented the Oppo X 2021, a rollable smartphone in which the screen dynamically extends or contracts. This concept pursues the same objective as smartphones with a folding screen from Samsung or Motorola: that the dimensions of the screen expand or contract according to the needs of the consumer. The methodology, however, is different in this case.

The Oppo X 2021 has a 7.4-inch OLED screen and a format closer to that of a small tablet than that of a smartphone. Part of this panel, however, can be hidden inside the chassis thanks to a complex motorized mechanism developed by Oppo. The user, therefore, can switch between a 6.7-inch screen like the one found in many smartphones or, if they wish, extend its surface to 7.4 inches.

The extraction mechanism of the Oppo X 2021 is composed of two motors, some plates that serve as a structure and a series of bearings located on one of the sides. Together, they make the screen slide into the chassis evenly while preserving its integrity. This system, in principle, avoids the appearance of folds, as it happens in Samsung folding smartphones. The result is a uniform, completely flat and streak-free display.

The Oppo X 2021 is a concept product

This phone is a conceptual product with which Oppo intends to make known all its advances in the field of rolling phones. The brand, therefore, has not set a price or disclosed the technical specifications of this product – beyond the data related to the screen and the new mechanism. It would not be unreasonable, however, that the ideas implemented in this product end up, in the future, in a commercially available product.

Oppo is not the only company that is experimenting with these types of rollable smartphones. TCL has also shown concept products in this same direction and there is speculation that LG could announce a similar product in the coming months.
