MotoGP has the great goal of returning to normal in 2021 after an atypical campaign in which the competition has focused on Europe due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And this happens to recover the usual preseason format for the queen class of the World Motorcycle Championship. In this line, Dorna has revealed the dates of the IRTA MotoGP tests of the next campaign, test sessions that will kick off the season in two scenarios as closely linked to the preparatory phase of each season in the World Cup queen class as they are Sepang (Malaysia) and Losail (Qatar).
The 2021 MotoGP preseason will start with the shakedown dispute, a three-day test that will take place at the Sepang circuit between February 14 and 16. This first contact of the drivers and teams after the winter break will serve as a preview of the first IRTA test itself, a test session that will take place just a few days later also in Malaysia. However, This first test is scheduled to take place at the International Circuit de Sepang between February 19 and 21, scenario in which the entire grid -including testers- of the category will meet for the first time.
Valentino Rossi says Yamaha needs a serious test program
Work closed in Malaysia, the teams will have a short break before sending all the material to Losail, scene of the last test of the 2021 preseason. In anticipation of the Qatar GP, the test with which the competition will start, the MotoGP riders and teams will have a three-day test at the Losail circuit. Specifically, MotoGP will complete its last IRTA test between March 10 and 12. Just a few days later, between the 16 and 18 of that same month, the Moto2 and Moto3 categories will contest their only official pre-season test at the Circuit of Jerez – Ángel Nieto.
