The new Jeep Wrangler V8 officially presented with more power than expected

The off-road manufacturer has officially presented the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, the production variant of the new 8-cylinder Wrangler, a first for the iconic American 4×4 that, in addition to having a 476-horsepower V8 HEMI, debuts a new frame configuration more radical.

A few days ago we informed you that Jeep was announcing the arrival of the new 8-cylinder variant of the Wrangler range, although at that time we did not expect it to be officially presented so soon. Unlike other versions or variants of the iconic off-road vehicle, the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 it has not had a long launch campaign. Last summer a concept was presented without prior notice that, as we can now see, already had its final configuration, and now we are before its production version after the launch of a teaser that was limited to hinting at the arrival of one more variant fast.

The new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is basically the same model that the firm presented in concept form a few months ago, since both share even the name. Although the truth is that this variant is more than a Wrangler with a huge V8 mechanics in the front span, as it also has a new frame configuration and some equipment items.

For now it has only been presented with a 4-door body.

On an aesthetic level we cannot say that we have been surprised, since the definitive model it is practically identical to the concept presented aboveWith the difference of the interior, since we no longer find the huge seats covered in red leather and in their place appear the usual elements of the Wrangler range. Outside is where we will find most of the novelties, starting with a new frame scheme with wider axles and raised suspension that give it a more aggressive and off-road image. although the hallmark of this version is its bulging front hood with a huge functional air intake that even allows a wading height greater than 80 cm, since this is in charge of feeding air to the huge V8 block.

Regarding its dimensions and exterior elements, the truth is that we did not find great differences with the rest of the Wrangler Rubicon variants. So to untrained eyes this is just one more variant of the popular Jeep off-road.

The star of the set is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 block that we can find in various models of the US division of the FCA group. This mechanism has been recalibrated for the special needs of the new Jeep Wrangler, so it has a slightly lower power figure, although 20 hp higher than that announced during the presentation of the concept. Finally, the Wrangler V8 has 476 PS (470 hp) and 637 Nm of maximum torque and it will have a single transmission option, an 8-speed automatic transmission. The mechanical assembly also has elements such as levers behind the wheel or the active exhaust system, which until now had not been available in the Wrangler range and which are released in this new 8-cylinder version.

This will be the version with more equipment in the range.

Thanks to mechanical performance, the company claims that the new Wrangler Rubicon 392 is capable of completing 0 to 96 km / h in just 4.5 seconds And as if that were not enough, they have also announced the measurement in which it is capable of performing the quarter mile, 13 seconds. A measure that we did not expect to find in any off-road variant but that has been taken into account during the development of this enhanced variant and therefore they have included functions such as the system Torque Reserve, which manages the response of the mechanics when activating the Launch Control and is inherited from the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

As we have already mentioned, at the frame level it mounts wider axles but also a different suspension scheme than the rest of the versions of the regular range. So the new Wrangler Rubicon V8 uses Dana 44 rigid axles available on Rubicon versions in combination with new shock absorbers and a redesigned geometry. Thanks to the new height provided by the model’s suspension scheme, it now has better attack and departure angles.

For the moment Pricing and possible release date have not been disclosed, as well as the possibility of finding this mechanical version in the 2-door body. For the moment, Jeep It has only shown images related to the Unlimited 4-door variant, the same configuration of the development prototypes seen so far. So we will have to wait to know more details about the new model.
