Communicator Karina Larrauri had been waiting impatiently for the appointment of the new Minister of the Environment and yesterday afternoon, Monday, the wait was over, as President-elect Luis Abinader announced through Twitter that Orlando Jorge Mera will be in charge of that ministry. .
Larrauri, who has always raised his voice in defense of natural resources, used his social networks to express what he expects from Jorge Mera at the head of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
With a letter entitled « The suffering of the Environment », the actress wrote: « Dear Orlando, allow me to write to you knowing that we do not know each other, but today You assume a new public role that many Dominicans keep the hope that whoever arrives will finally put on the shirt of the interests of the majority in the protection of our environment and know how to face the pressures of particular interests”.
The announcer of « 12y2 » said that she hopes that as an expert in the laws (in reference to Jorge Mera being a lawyer), she will know how to enforce them. He also hopes that he can « surround you and listen to those who have been in this fight for years. »
Although Karina had suggested other names to fill the position, referring to the new minister, she said that if the will exists, the path becomes less difficult.
“Hopefully over the years we can look back and applaud the actions of your management and that of your team. I want to think that we already have a real suffering for the Environment ”, concluded the letter.
Regarding Federico Franco, the next Vice Minister of Protected Areas and Biodiversity, Larrauri said that it does not make her feel “comfortable” that he appoint a lawyer in that position.
« Appointing an engineer as Vice Minister of Protected Areas does not make me feel comfortable. I do not know Federico Franco and I have always said that the best « technicality » is to want to do things well, however, what is in that vice ministry is perverse, difficult and great, « he wrote on Twitter.
However, he clarified: “Which does not mean that this new vice minister does not do a good job. What he does need is a lot of courage and no interests to respond to. Our protected areas require a firm stance against the crime that is being committed and that those responsible pay ”.
