The Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, admitted this Wednesday that the vaccination process against the covid will be extended in time. In an interview in La Sexta, the member of the Executive has revealed that we will have to receive several additional punctures.

Morant has gone beyond the third booster dose that is being debated in many countries and requested by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. “We are going to have to vaccinate many more times”, has specified the minister, expanding the statement that the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, had previously made.

Darias had assured that “everything seems to indicate that we will have to put a third dose”, indicating that an extension contract has already been signed with Pfizer and Moderna for 2022 and 2023 worth 1,800 and 480 million euros, respectively.

The problem is that this Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked for a global moratorium on that third dose, according to Efe: “We understand the concern of governments to protect their populations from the delta variant, but we cannot accept that countries that have already used the most vaccine supplies use even more, while the world’s most vulnerable populations remain unprotected, ”said Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

I’m not talking about a third dose in this phase, I’m talking about next year, the next … Diana Morant, Minister of Science and Innovation

In this sense, Diana Morant explained that there will be other vaccination phases “to which we are going to have to undergo” and that this scenario will not take place “only in Spain”. It has been a statement in the line of the Minister of Health, who had said that it still remains to be known when the administration of the reinforcement doses will take place.

The Minister of Science has been precise in specifying that the coronavirus is not going to abandon us. “I’m not talking about a third dose in this phase, I’m talking about next year, the next …”, commented Morant.

“The world has much lower vaccination rates, the aspiration has to be talked about globally,” said the head of Science, pointing out that “all the research that accumulates will be good for now and for the future” .

The stoppage of one of the Spanish vaccines

Morant has also commented on the stoppage of clinical trials in humans of the vaccine against COVID-19 developed by the team of the Spanish researcher Mariano Esteban, from the National Center for Biotechnology (CSIC), together with the company Biofabri.

“I have to be very rigorous. What there is right now is the presentation of the preclinical results by the researchers to the AEMPS, which once all that documentation has been analyzed has to authorize or not that step, the next phase ”, the minister has sentenced.

In this sense, Morant has alleged that there is still no report from the AEMPS nor have the investigations of the investigating team been published yet. “There has been noise, but I cannot speak of noise or speculation,” the minister wielded.

In any case, Morant has denied the existence of a “hiatus” in research on this vaccine. “There has been no stoppage. Nothing has stopped, information is being released that is based on few certainties. There is no statement from the AEMPS ”, he pointed out.
