The localities affected by the aftershocks of the earthquake

After the main earthquake that occurred around 12 at night in San Juan, the aftershocks multiplied throughout the province and had a high ranking on the Richter Scale. The movements continued until five hours later.

He National Institute for Seismic Prevention (Inpres) reported that the events in San Juan were held throughout the night and the inhabitants reflected it on social networks with images of the damage to their homes.

 

 

According to the authorities of the province, material damage occurred and three people were injured during the events that started before midnight but continued into the early morning. Two were children with minor trauma and an adult who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as detailed by the governor, Sergio Uñac.

The places most affected by the earthquake in San Juan were the capital city of San Juan and the towns of Caucete, Mirayes, Barreal and the Media Agua Valley, according to Inpres. Route 40 that runs through that area suffered a one-kilometer crack reason why the traffic had to be cut.

San Juan suffered the historic earthquake of 1944 that had a power of 7 on the Richter Scale and the anniversary was celebrated just four days ago. In that event, more than 10,000 people died and it is estimated that more than 80 percent of the structures that made up the City of San Juan were lost.
