The Government maintains its intention to end the state of alarm on May 9, since it believes that epidemiological data support that no extension is necessary of that exceptional situation.

The Minister of Finance and Government spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, has reiterated that intention in the press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, in which she has assured that there is no news in the determination of the Executive to raise the alarm.

He explained that the epidemiological data that are becoming known support that decision and insisted that the autonomous communities have the necessary instruments to face the new situation.

That is why it has refused to approve new measures that allow ordinary laws to restrict rights that can only be limited by means of a tool such as the state of alarm that the Constitution includes.

This is not something normal, but something absolutely exceptional, “he added.
