One of the sectors hardest hit by the health and economic crisis caused by the coronavirus is tourism. Faced with this situation, the Government has announced the reopening of the borders to foreign tourists on July 1, while the reactivation of national tourism by regions is being considered.

The Pedro Sánchez Government advocates that border controls and travel restrictions on the European Union they are raised in areas that have an epidemiological situation “that evolves positively”, with the aim of guaranteeing health security throughout the territory and avoiding the risks of a flare-up.

“We would like to see the reopening of borders not only by country, but also by region. We are committed to making a gradual, coordinated and non-discriminatory opening between territories with a similar epidemiological situation that allows us to avoid the risks of regrowth “, indicated the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, during the press conference this Tuesday after the Council of Ministers.

Security guarantees

In addition, he has defended that the position of Spain is that common rules be defined to regain freedom of movement within the European Union, advocating to establish security guarantees at destination and origin. “We want to guarantee that tourists take no risk and that they do not bring risks to our country either, ”said Maroto.

Furthermore, it has insisted that countries must guarantee sanitary capacity and transparency with travelers, in addition to addressing a “coordinated and regional” approach.

Summer season
