The development of a series of ‘Penguin’ for HBO Max begins

Via Deadline they report that Oswald Cobblepot will have his own series at the hands of HBO Max, from where they have already started the development of a spin-off of ‘Penguin’ which looks like it could be related to Matt Reeves’ movie ‘The Batman’. At the moment it is not confirmed if Colin Farrell, who plays the character in the film, will star in this new series.

The series will focus on Cobblepot’s past and show his rise to power in Gotham’s seedy belly rather than him as the established kingpin. The character has a long history of live appearances, as Danny DeVito played Penguin on ‘Batman Returns’ and Robin Lord Taylor did the same on ‘Gotham’.

The series will be produced by Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves (also producers of ‘The Batman’), in a joint project by 6th and Idaho, DC Entertainment, Dylan Clark Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

This is not the first spin-off of ‘The Batman in development, as a series centered on a corrupt Gotham cop with Joe Barton as showrunner is also underway and will serve as a prequel to the film. This series will take place in the first year of Batman, while the film will take place in the second year of the crusader with the cape.
