Oxygen sensors, always-on display and ECG as main differences

Apple Watch SE
Apple Watch SE

The two new Apple Watch diversify the brand’s watch offering for the second time. The first was with the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 in 2016, although for different reasons. This time, we are facing a user base with increasingly heterogeneous needs that are better served with different models.

Comparing the most important specifications, we have a pretty clear picture. There are three key points of differentiation in comparison between Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch SE:

S6 chip
S6 chip

The oxygen sensor, exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 6, adds a new dimension to monitoring our health. Blood oxygen saturation levels are measured via a new sensor on the rear and allows readings to be taken in as little as 15 seconds. The always-on screen is present in the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6. Of course, in the latter it is 2.5 times brighter at rest, making it more suitable outdoors. The electrocardiogram or ECG is found in Series 5 and Series 6. The Apple Watch SE is also out of this health variable.

The processor is already powerful and efficient enough in all these models, so we could leave it in the background. However, since the Apple Watch Series 6 It is based on the A13 Bionic of the iPhone 11, we have an important component: the neural engine. For the first time in an Apple Watch we have the company’s neural engine, which promises to streamline tasks that require machine learning.

The new Apple Watch SE brings the Apple Watch to more wrists with a very attractive price

And finally, we have the price. The complete Apple Watch Series 6 “kit” has a starting price of 429 euros, with the Apple Watch SE from 299 euros. It is worth noting the difference that the addition of cellular connectivity makes, being 100 euros in the Series 6 and 50 euros in the SE. Let’s not forget that the Apple Watch Series 3 remains on sale for 219 euros.

Apple already has its Apple Watch lineup ready for this new season. In Applesfera we hope to have test units for launch in the next few days.
