The 10 Tom Hanks movies you should see | .

This Friday premieres on Apple TV + ‘Greyhound’, a film set in the Second World War. By the way, we had 10 films by the two-time Oscar winner.

1.- Forrest Gump.

United States, 1994. Directed by: Robert Zemeckis.

Forrest is mentally retarded; however, his tenacity and nobility lead him to be part of important events in the modern history of the United States.

This tape gave Hanks a statuette of The Academy, thanks to his performance. The film took five other medals, including Best Film.

2.- Philadelphia

Philadelphia. United States, 1993. Directed by: Jonathan Demme.

Young lawyer Andrew Beckett is fired from the prestigious law firm where he works when his bosses learn he has AIDS, which is why he decides to sue; however, no attorney supports it.

For this film Hanks took an Oscar, in addition to the Golden Globe and the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.

3.- A Good Day in the Neighborhood

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. United States, 2019. Directed by: Marielle Heller.

Based on the real friendship between Fred Rogers and the journalist Tom Junod, which arises when Tom is sent to interview the good Fred.

Hanks is again nominated for Best Supporting Actor at The Academy, although this time he did not win the medal. However, his performance was applauded by media such as Variety, who wrote « It’s not that Hank is fine, he’s intoxicating. »

4.- The Post: The Dark Secrets of the Pentagon

The Post. United States, 2017. Directed by: Steven Spielberg.

Film set in the 70s, when two of the most important newspapers in the United States: The New York Times and The Washington Post took a brave position in favor of freedom of expression, reporting on the Pentagon documents and the massive cover-up of secrets by part of the government.

It is a story based on real events with the co-starring of Meryl Streep, who was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress category.

5.- Captain Phillips

Captain Phillips. United States, 2013. Directed by: Paul Greengrass.

A cargo ship, under the command of US Merchant Marine Captain Richard Phillips, is boarded and held by Somali pirates, making it the first American ship to be hijacked in the past two hundred years.

Plot based on real events that was recognized in several important awards ceremonies, such as the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, the Critics Choice and the Satellite Awards.

6.- Rescuing Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan. United States, 1998. Directed by: Steven Spielberg.

Story set in World War II that follows a group of American soldiers on a mission to bring Private James Ryan to safety.

It features a multi-star cast led by Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, and Paul Giamatti.

7.- Power Game

Charlie Wilson’s War. United States, 2007. Directed by: Mike Nichols.

Follow an American congressman, a high-society woman, and a CIA agent who teamed up to carry out the biggest secret operation in history.

Features performances by Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Emily Blunt; in addition to the script by Aaron Sorkin, based on the book by George Crile, for sale in Amazon Mexico.

8.- Castaway

Cast Away. United States, 2000. Directed by: Robert Zemeckis.

An executive at the multinational courier company FedEx suffers a plane crash that leaves him alone on an island in the middle of the ocean, where he will have to find a way to survive or escape from there.

It is one of the most remembered films of Tom Hanks, for his performance that led him to be nominated for Best Actor in the Oscars and for which he won a Golden Globe.

9.- Sully: feat in the Hudson

Sully. United States, 2016. Directed by: Clint Eastwood.

The pilot Chesley Sullenberger gained notoriety when, shortly after taking off, his plane broke down and he had to make a forced landing on the Hudson River, in New York, saving all 155 passengers.

It is based on the autobiographical book by Chelsey Sullenberg, which you can purchase from Amazon Mexico. This film was also recognized within the 10 Films of the Year by the National Board of Review.

10.- The Terminal

The Terminal. United States, 2004. Directed by: Steven Spielberg.

Victor Navorski, a citizen of a small Eastern European country, is involuntarily exiled at the international terminal of JFK airport in New York when a Civil War breaks out in his home country.

It has the performances of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stanley Tucci and the Mexican Diego Luna. Despite several mixed reviews, she was a winner in the 2005 Art Directors Guild.
