The women’s basketball legend comes from serving in the New Orleans organization as a development coach and split her time between the Pelicans and the team’s G League affiliate in Pennsylvania.
Weatherspoon places her name alongside Brittni Donaldson of the Toronto Raptors, Lindsay Gottlieb of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jenny Boucek of the Dallas Mavericks, Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Spurs and Sonia Raman of the Memphis Grizzlies as the female assistants in the NBA.
Lindsey Harding of the Sacramento Kings and Natalie Nakase of the Los Angeles Clippers serve as full-time assistant player development coaches with their respective franchises.
“When the time comes, when the opportunity comes, I will be ready to walk through that door to take on those challenges and with the understanding that I’m signing up for a lot more than winning basketball games.”
