Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple in an attempt to make iOS a more open environment. As you can imagine, the company behind Fortnite: Battle Royale is not alone in this fight and has the support of Spotify, the music streaming service.
According to Stuart Dredge, who writes for Music Ally and The Week Junior, Spotify released a statement in support of Epic Games. In it they applaud the company’s actions and point out that they hope this will lead to a fairer ecosystem.
“We applaud Epic Games’ decision to stand up against Apple and show how Apple abuses its dominant position. Apple’s unfair practices have put competitors at a disadvantage for too long. The stakes for consumers and application developers, both large and small, could not be higher and ensuring that the iOS platform operates competitively and fairly is an urgent task with broad implications. «
Spotify has a long dispute with Apple
Spotify’s response showing support for Epic Games will surprise few. After all, the music streaming service has a long-running dispute against the company responsible for the iPhone.
In case you don’t know, Spotify has complained about the commission for using in-app purchase services. This is because other services (such as Apple Music) are not charged, which is considered to put it at a disadvantage. Also, it does not allow you to offer direct promotions to consumers and rejects enhancements to your applications.
