Set to receive a slew of nominations and awards for the Netflix war drama ‘Da 5 Bloods: Brothers in Arms’ and the HBO documentary, ‘David Byrne’s American Utopia,’ filmmaker Spike Lee looks to the future and is already preparing a new one. project for Entertainment One. Without a definite title, Lee will write and direct a musical about that miraculous Pfizer drug called Viagra.

According to Deadline, Lee co-wrote the project with Kwame Kwei-Armah based on David Kushner’s article for Esquire, ‘All Rise: The Untold Story of The Guys Who Launched Viagra.’ This article was inspired by Pfizer’s discovery and launch of the erectile dysfunction drug, including its initial intention to treat heart-related chest pain … until researchers realized that among the side effects there was one that would give them world hegemony.

Lee is also producing the musical through his 40 Acres label and A Mule Filmworks, along with Matt Jackson for Jackson Pictures. Joanne Lee and David Kushner will executive produce this musical whose original songs will be composed by Mark “Stew” Stewart and Heidi Rodewald, the same creative team that was behind the Tony-winning musical, ‘Passing Strange’.
