Police have arrested more than 40 suspects, including members of various security forces and 6 people who remain hospitalized
Johannesburg.- At least five people died this morning in an attack with shootings and with an alleged taking of hostages in a church of South Africa, a massacre for which more than 40 people have already been arrested, police sources said today.
The attack took place around 3.00 am (1.00 GMT), in a compound of the so-called International Pentecostal Holiness Church located in the town of Zuurbekom, some 40 kilometers east of Johannesburg.
As detailed by the South African Police in a statement issued this Saturday, members of different security forces came to the area after receiving notice of shootings and an alleged situation of taking of hostages inside the church.
« Police are investigating the possibility that the attack may have been motivated by a dispute between factions of the church in conflict, « says the text.
Four people were found shot and burned inside a car, while the fifth victim is a security guard who had apparently come in response to the altercation and who also died inside his car from a firearm.
Police have arrested more than 40 suspects, including members of various security forces and 6 people who remain hospitalized.
In addition, more than thirty firearms were seized.
Investigations into the incident continued on Saturday afternoon.
