The relationship between Sony and Epic Games, creators of Fortnite, has recently been strengthened thanks to PlayStation 5. Both companies collaborated to show the first demo of Unreal Engine 5 running on the new generation console.
In addition, Tim Sweeney, head of Epic Games, has highlighted some features of the PlayStation 5, such as the innovations it will offer in terms of speed and its personalized SSD.
Sony surprised yesterday by investing $ 250 MDD to buy a part of Epic Games. This generated controversy and annoyance in some players, as they believe that the deal is related to the praise that Epic Games has made to PlayStation 5.
Before the accusations, Sweeney decided to speak on the subject. The manager confronted the various accusations by a sector of the players.

Sweeney denies influence of investment in comments on PS5
Some people accused Sweeney of speaking highly of PlayStation 5 solely because of the imminent investment agreement that they were going to close with Sony. However, the manager made it clear that this is not the case.
According to Sweeney, the discussions to close the deal and the investment were held right after showing the demo of Unreal Engine 5 running on the next-gen console. All of this happened in mid-May.
Sweeney quoted a message he posted on Twitter that month, where he literally says « there is no secret deal. » In addition, the creative adds that they worked closely with Sony for several months.
Thus, the head of Epic Games flatly denied a possible marketing agreement with Sony related to what PlayStation 5 can and cannot do. « There were serious investment discussions from the Unreal Engine 5 demo that we showed on PlayStation 5. I guess they liked it, » said Sweeney.

With their recent agreement, Sony and Epic Games seek to create a more open digital ecosystem. In the end, it will be both companies that benefit from the deal, and possibly every company in the industry will benefit to some degree if there is something to do with Unreal Engine 5.
