US President Donald Trump assured that he will not allow Twitter to interfere with his “freedom of expression” when verifying the content of his messages, something that the social network started doing today.
“Twitter is interfering in the 2020 presidential election. My claim about voting by mail, which will lead to corruption and massive fraud, is said to be incorrect, based on fake news checks,” Trump said, precisely on Twitter.
“Twitter,” he added, “is completely suppressing freedom of expression, and I, as president, will not allow it!”
Twitter linked this Tuesday for the first time a message from Trump with verified information that contradicts what the president had published, a common procedure on the social network but that until now had resisted applying to the president.
The Twitter alert came after Trump shared a message that he said voting by mail in the US presidential election in November. it would inevitably have fraudulent consequences and would lead to rigged elections.
The president thus reacted to the decision of California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, to mail ballots to all registered voters in the state as an exceptional measure in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Access the data on the vote by mail here”, was the message that, in blue and preceded by an exclamation point, Twitter embedded under Trump’s tweets.
By clicking on the alert, the social network redirects to another page within the platform in which it appears in bold letters: “Trump assures without proof that voting by mail will lead to electoral fraud” and media sources like CNN are quoted. and the Washington Post.
Twitter is the most used social network by Trump, through which he communicates directly with his supporters without going through the traditional media filter, and where he accumulates more than eighty million followers.
