With the right foot, the Mexican Sergio Pérez began his participation in the Styrian Grand Prix – named for the region in which the Red Bull Ring is located. The Racing Point driver was fastest with a time of 1: 04.867, beating Max Verstappen of Red Bull by 0.096s.
When this Grand Prix was held for the second consecutive weekend in this same scenario, the ten teams have a great advantage and it is the great amount of information that they have been able to collect during those days. Therefore, each lap is essential to continue developing the cars and find their maximum potential for this weekend and in the following events.
Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton finished third and fourth at 0.222s and 0.253s respectively, although they did not put up the soft compound like Perez and Verstappen did.
Canadian Lance Stroll took fifth place, being half a second behind his teammate at Racing Point. The sixth time went to Thai Alexander Albon of Red Bull, followed by Carlos Sainz of McLaren, Pierre Gasly of AlphaTauri and Daniel Ricciardo of Renault.
Regarding the Maranello team, for now their times have not been highlighted. The German Sebastian Vettel was tenth, while his teammate, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc occupied the twelfth position. It should be noted that both pilots tested much of the soft compound during the session.
The Williams and Alfa Romeo teams decided in this session to give their test drivers the opportunity. In the case of the British team, Jack Aitken replaced George Russell, occupying the seventeenth place, while in the Italian team, Robert Kubica replaced Antonio Giovinazzi, remaining in eighteenth place.
The only timeless driver was Danish Kevin Magnussen of Haas as a result of a battery problem.
At 15:00 pm in Spielberg the second free practice session of the Styrian Grand Prix will begin with LIVE broadcast of F1Latam.com .
