Sega Announces « Something Special » Coming This Thursday

Sega Europe’s official Twitter account recently announced that its first live broadcast of 2021 will air on Thursday, January 14, noting that it will feature « something special. » The tweet features a GIF of Sonic the Hedgehog running through the Sega logo, but that doesn’t stop fans from expecting the ad to be related to Persona or Yakuza. EA’s takeover of Codemasters will go ahead as planned after outbidding take two

After Take-Two’s initial offering of $ 980 million by publisher Codemasters, Electronic Arts stepped in and offered $ 1.2 billion, apparently securing the acquisition. Today, Take-Two has stated that it has withdrawn its offering, which means that EA will in fact own Codemasters and all of its IP, including Dirt, F1, OnRush, and the World Rally Championship, to name a few. The acquisition is expected to be finalized later in the first quarter of 2021.

GameStop Shares Rise After Chewing Investor Joins Board

In recent years, it has been common to see news of GameStop’s steady decline in performance, but the company is currently enjoying a significant boost in its shares. As of today, the company’s stock is up 94%, due to the addition of Chewy co-founder Ryan Cohen to the GameStop board of directors. This marks the highest price since 2015. With digital game sales surging, GameStop has struggled to stay afloat, but plans to adapt to remain relevant going forward. Cohen, along with two other former Chewy colleagues on the board, is expected to « make GameStop a more digital-focused retailer. »

Gamers spent more than 31 billion hours playing steam games in 2020

Valve has just released a series of Steam statistics for 2020, with detailed data on the activity of its users throughout the year. Most notably, gamers spent a total of 31.3 billion hours playing Steam games, an increase of more than 50% compared to 2019. Additionally, consumers bought 21% more games on the platform in comparison. with the previous year, probably due to the number of people who stayed home during the pandemic.

Black Ops Cold War was NA’s most downloaded PlayStation game in 2020

Today, the PlayStation.Blog revealed the most downloaded PS Store games of 2020, covering both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 across the EU and NA. The most downloaded game of 2020 on PS4 and PS5 in North America was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
