The young German drove the car with which his father won his last World Cup
The exhibition was last Sunday on the occasion of the 1,000 Ferrari GP in F1
Last Sunday Mick Schumacher made a small exhibition on the Mugello track with the F2004 with which his father won his seventh F1 crown 16 years ago, on the occasion of Ferrari’s 1,000th F1 GP. The young German has described his feelings after this test.
Until the F1 2020 Tuscan GP, precisely the F2004 – the car that Ferrari raced in the 2004 Formula 1 season – held the unofficial record for the Mugello circuit, until it was destroyed by Lewis Hamilton’s pole.
After finishing the second F2 race of the weekend in which he was placed leader of the silver competition with three appointments in 2020, Mick Schumacher made a short exhibition with the F2004 with which his father, Michael, harvested 16 seasons ago his seventh and final F1 world champion title.
At the end of the exhibition, Schumacher was very satisfied to have recreated, in some way, the steps of his father in a circuit like Mugello. For the date, young Mick had a special helmet emulating his father’s classic design.
“Obviously, driving the Ferrari F2004 last Sunday was very special for me. It is a great car and in my opinion it is one of the best in the history of Formula 1”, explained Schumacher. “Driving it on a track like Mugello where the F2004 had done so many laps before has made it more special.”
“It was just incredible. The sound, the downforce, the steering … just incredible. It was very special for all the parties involved, and I think also for the mechanics who once worked with my father, 16 years ago. a great moment for me and I am very grateful to Ferrari for this opportunity, “he concluded.
