Nurse Mildred Ratched, considered one of the greatest villains in film history, is about to tell us her origins in an original Netflix series. Starring Emmy winner Sarah Paulson, Ratched It will serve as a prequel to the film Trapped Without Exit (1975), where we will witness the decline of the character until he becomes the monster we all know.

Paulson meets again with the creator of American Horror Story, Ryan MurphyAlthough now in an American horror story surrounding the American mental health system of the mid-20th century. Murphy serves as executive producer of the series, along with the famous Michael Douglas, while the credits for its creation lie with the debutant Evan Romansky.

As far as we know from the plot, Ratched is temporarily located in 1947 – fifteen years before the events of the iconic film – with Mildred already working in a psychiatric hospital (via). The cast is complemented by Cynthia Nixon, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Finn Wittrock and Charlie Carver, among others, with special appearances by Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosanna Arquette and Don Cheadle.

This week, Netflix has announced that the show – made up of eight chapters – will reach its catalog next September 18. At the same time, the streaming server broadcast eleven production stills that they will be able to appreciate in the gallery located at the end of this text.

Trapped without exit (whose original title is One Flew Over Cuckoo’s Nest) is a novel written by Ken Kesey and published in 1962. Ten years later, filmmaker Miloš Forman would direct the acclaimed film adaptation, starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, in the role of malevolent nurse.

The film —available on Prime Video México— has the following synopsis:

When Randle (Nicholson) enters the hospital, he meets an unknown world. Although he thinks that he can behave as he likes, he is going to face nurse Mildred Ratched, a tough woman who will not allow any disorder within the institution. »

Do you think the Netflix prequel series gets recognition comparable to that of the five-time Oscar winning film?

Toño Guzmán I have a very bad memory. In solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
