Roger-Vasselin and Melzer save five match points and win

Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Jurgen Melzer won against John Peers and Michael Venus in their second match at the London Masters. They saved five match points and can therefore still believe in qualifying.

It was very close, but Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Jurgen Melzer are still alive in the London Masters! The Franco-Austrian pair, beaten for their entry on Monday, had no room for error against John Peers and Michael Venus, and they won 2-6, 6-7, 12-10 after having saved five match points! “ERV” and Melzer missed out on their opening set, breaking 2-1 and 5-2, while the Australian and New Zealander had no break point to defend.

In the second, the two pairs held their faceoff perfectly. Once again, Peers and Venus were never put in danger, as Melzer and Roger-Vasselin had just one break point to defend, which turned out match point at 5-4. And they saved her. Everything was played in the tie-break, where the French and the Austrian won without shaking too much (7-4).

It was therefore necessary to play the super tie-break and Roger-Vasselin and Melzer achieved a small miracle: led 9-6 then 10-9, they saved four match points and ended up winning 12-10 on their first match point. What efficiency! This victory allows them to find themselves in perfect equality with Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares in the standings. Everything will therefore be decided on Friday!
