Ricciardo wins the Italian GP against Hamilton and Verstappen crash

The 2021 Italian Grand Prix became a mountain of emotions and could drastically mark the drivers’ championship after a new incident between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, although this time unlike what happened at Silverstone, the two were eliminated.

The first few bars of the competition barely had flashes of emotions with the snatch as the climax. Daniel Ricciardo, who started second, attacked Verstappen from the inside to snatch the first place while Hamilton He also stood side by side with the Dutchman, although with a slight touch that forced him to leave the circuit at the first chicane and allowed Lando Norris to advance to third place leaving the Red Bull between the two cars of Woking’s house.

The Virtual Safety Car It appeared quickly as a result of Antonio Giovinazzi’s Alfa Romeo being crossed after being hit in the back by the Ferrari by Carlos Sainz. The Italian was in the top 10 and hoping to score points, but after that his career was doomed to finish 13th.

After that moment, the front of the grid was left without action while Valtteri Bottas started a comeback. In turn 13 the Scandinavian Mercedes was already within the points zone after having started from the back due to a change of power unit.

Daniel Ricciardo he was the first to pit on lap 23 on a hard tire with Verstappen following him on the later lap. The Red Bull one lost 11 seconds in his stop by a failure of one of the pistols for the change of tires.

At the same time, Hamilton overtook Norris for third place. The championship leader returned to the circuit behind the Briton’s McLaren after lost time in the pits.

Despite starting on the hard tire, Hamilton entered the middle on lap 25 with a slow stop of 4.2 seconds to keep pace with the leaders.

Coming out of the pits, the biggest drama of the competition began. The seven-time world champion extended his move to the outside before the first corner to corner Verstappen. The Dutchman did not give in and walked the chicane side by side. The story changed when one of his left tires touched one of the curbs and raised the Red Bull car to trigger a clash between the title contenders.

The RB16B’s right rear tire passed over the Mercedes Halo to finally land on the front of the W12 and force the safety car out.

Immediately Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Sergio Pérez, George Russell, Valtteri Bottas and other drivers took the opportunity to comply with their arrest, with almost all placing the hard except for the Finn from Mercedes who opted for the middle at the end.

The race restarted on lap 31 with Ricciardo in the lead followed by Leclerc, Norris, Pérez, Sainz and Bottas. The Briton from McLaren immediately attacked the Monegasque’s Ferrari to establish the 1-2 of the house of Woking.

Pérez did not miss the surprise that Leclerc had taken and attacked him to take third position.

However, the Mexican’s overtaking was overshadowed by leaving the circuit and completing the pass by cutting the chicane. This action was considered by the stewards as illegal and they gave him a penalty of five seconds on his final time.

Bottas also beat the Monegasque to take fourth place and focus on a direct duel with the Red Bull Mexican.

Although the Finn made an attack 10 laps from the end, he failed to hold the position. At that time the focus was to maintain the minimum difference against the Mexican while waiting for the penalty of five seconds when crossing the finish line.

Norris asked McLaren to let him attack Ricciardo, but from the pits they denied him this possibility since it meant 1-2 for the team, the first in the squad since the 2010 Canadian GP.

The Australian crossed the line with a 1.7 second lead over Norris with Bottas closing the podium. Leclerc took fourth place and Pérez finished fifth with the penalty applied, just ahead of Sainz’s second Ferrari.
