Renfe has extended until December 31, 2021 the validity of the return codes of the banknotes that were canceled during the state of alarm, between the last months of March and May, motivated by the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions caused by the impact of the state of alarm on the freedom of movement of people.
Specifically, the operator explains that there are still 112,075 codes in force of the 131,200 that were issued with a validity of 245 days -for a combined amount of 5.7 million euros-, but that many will not be able to be used due to the new restrictions mobility imposed since the second state of alarm was approved.
«Renfe once again demonstrates its responsibility and commitment to its customers, as it is the only transport company in Spain that is carrying out a policy of free changes and cancellations ”, the company assures. During the state of alarm approved in Spain since March 14, the operator returned almost one million tickets to its customers, for a total amount of 38.5 million euros.
Also, in the framework of the second wave, Renfe has returned from October 3 another 245,637 million for an amount of 8.8 million euros to travelers who have had to cancel their tickets due to the new mobility restriction measures approved in the different autonomous communities.
On the other hand, Renfe has started the sale of its offer of commercial services for Christmas holidays and the first two months of next year, subject to the mobility restrictions in force in each autonomous community. A scenario that will weigh down the company’s sales.
Travelers can already purchase, in the usual sales channels, tickets to travel until next February 28 in all High Speed and Long Distance corridors, with the exception of the Transversal Norte corridor and the Madrid-Alicante line, where they will go on sale in the coming days.
