WWE Friday Night SmackDown included a segment this week that missed many fans. Naomi, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans and Tamina participated in a karaoke battle organized by Jey Uso. But the real question is, Why did this happen?
Naomi has already spoken about the segment. She said that women in WWE are “fighting” for something better. She also apologized for the segment. Many fans seemed upset about women’s WWE use in this way.
The Ringside News portal reports that WWE had intentions with this segment, and none of them were to delay the women’s revolution. Three broken phrases were given that explained why Vince McMahon went to this address.
For this reason there was a Karaoke segment with women on SmackDown.
The reasons for the segment were “we tell stories”, “it is good entertainment” and “it is not just another fight”. It may sound simplistic in nature, and some would love a deeper meaning, but sometimes the content is presented simply to entertain.
We also spoke to a company source who admitted, “That segment was embarrassing.”
Some were also not happy that Lacey Evans was fighting shoeless in a dress. Women in WWE fought hard to be called superstars. The argument is that they should perform as athletes, but that was not evident on SmackDown this week. There was no malice behind it.
Any chance of appearing on television is valued, and women made the most of the segment. Naomi even commented on Instagram that they tried to make chicken salad with chicken shit.
Lacey Evans also became a heel during the segment, but that was an added benefit. She was convinced that her portrayal of Jeff Jarrett’s “With My Baby Tonight” (actually Road Dogg) was better than Naomi’s American Dreams song.
Remember the karaoke segment from SD? We have learned why it happened. “we tell stories,” “it’s good entertainment,” and “it’s not just another match.”
Don’t shoot the messenger.
