Four years after joining the RPF, he created the Banque commerciale de Paris and then became secretary general of the UNR alongside the General de Gaulle. He then joined the government as Minister of Industry Georges Pompidou from May to July 1968, then Minister of Equipment and Housing in governments Couve de Murville (1968-69) and Chaban-Delmas (1969-72).
In 1986, Albin Chalandon was appointed Keeper of the Seals in the government of Jacques Chirac. A few years earlier, he had helped Rachida Dati to get into politics.
