Quique Setien’s authority at Barça is increasingly questioned. Not just because many players literally ignore their advice and instructions or because Eder Sarabia often acts as head coach. Now the coach of the subsidiary Francisco García Pimienta made him a job in Valladolid that almost ended up costing him the minimal options for the league title that the Catalans host.
The coach was left with 15 field players and three goalkeepers for the match at Pucela. Where was the rest of the squad? Well, as in sports planning, the reduction of first team chips has prevailed over anything, because when Barça B has started to work, the seams of the team have been seen.
The azulgrana subsidiary, who plays this week the play-off for promotion to the Second Division, had to start shooting and they played a friendly match against Europa with players who had recently entered the first team calls such as Collado, Morer, Monchu or Cuenca. Setién had to settle for four changes and with many tremendously melted players on the field of play in the last minutes.
For the entity chaired by Bartomeu promoting to the Second Division has a strategic value, assuming 10 million euros for audiovisual income and we may only be at the beginning of the problem for Setién. The club plans to align Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig in the first match scheduled for July 19 at 8:00 p.m. against Valladolid B.
Curiously that same day, the first team played an hour later –at 9:00 pm– against Alavés on the last day of the League. And if the Catalans were alive for that moment in the fight for the title, what would they do? Without Fati, Riqui and the absence of the injured Griezmann, Setién would have a team of 12 players. Either the Spaniard strikes the table or it will show that even the players have more authority in the club than he does.
