During the month of March of this year, one of the few good news we had in the middle of this happy pandemic that has shaken Spain and the rest of the world was that of the project to adapt The Last of Us to television by HBO. with the creator of Chernobyl and Neil Druckmann involved in the project.
Months later his own HBO has announced that it has finally given the green light to this adaptation so Craig Mazin, creator of Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, main responsible for the video game at Naughty Dog, can now begin to pre-produce, shoot, direct and post-produce the pilot episode of the series that will also have Carolyn Strauss (producer of Chernobyl or Game of Thrones), Johan Renck (director of Chernobyl) and various PlayStation figures.
“Craig and Neil are visionaries who play in another league,” says Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of programming for HBO. “With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series will surely work with both the most die-hard fans of The Last of Us and newcomers to this saga that defines a genre. We are delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this pica and powerfully immersive story. “
They want to expand the story of The Last of Us, not remake it
One of the critical points of The Last of Us series is that with the adaptation they are not going to reinterpret the plot of The Last of Us but the intention of the whole team is to expand it. “In this case I’m doing it with the guy who created it and what we’re changing is designed to fill in the gaps and expand, not to undo, but rather to expand,” said Craig Mazin a few weeks ago talking about HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us.
