Pietro Fittipaldi will continue with the Haas F1 Team as a test and reserve driver for the 2021 season, having competed in two Grands Prix last season.
Pietro Fittipaldi, who completed his first two Formula 1 Grands Prix as a replacement for Romain Grosjean in the final phase of the 2020 season, will return to support the team on track throughout 2021, extending his relationship with the American squad for a third season.
Fittipaldi, 24, attended the majority of Formula 1 races in 2020 in his role as test and reserve pilot. The Miami-born Brazilian had previously shot with the VF-18 and VF-19 of 2018 and 2019 respectively.
“I am very happy to continue my third year with Haas”
Grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion and two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi, Pietro has a track record that includes multiple victories and four titles (including the Formula Renault V8 3.5, as well as several presences in the IndyCar.
“We are delighted to continue our relationship with Pietro Fittipaldi”, stated the team principal Günther Steiner. “The role of test and reserve pilot means that we may call you to pilot at very short notice, as was the case with Pietro in Bahrain in late 2020. Despite the demands of driving with little time to prepare, undoubtedly it did a solid job for us, especially since I hadn’t even tested the VF-20. “
«Pietro got through the moment, proved to be patient and ultimately did what he was asked to do: brought the car home to Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. That firsthand racing experience will serve to add value in terms of what he brings to the team in his role this season. We look forward to working with Pietro and having him with us again throughout the year, ”emphasizes the Haas CEO.
More experience and value
“I am very happy to continue my third year with Haas,” said Pietro Fittipaldi. «I am grateful to Gene (Haas) and Günther (Steiner) for the opportunity once again. I’ve been working with the engineers for a couple of years and I really feel like part of a big family at Haas. “
«It is a great pleasure for me to continue working with the team. The two races I ran last year they helped me gain even more experience and I’m sure that will allow me to contribute more to the team. I am looking forward to the start of the new season and to be back in Bahrain in March », the Brazilian concluded.
The first round of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship, the Bahrain Grand Prix, is held at the Sakhir circuit from March 26 to 28. Fittipaldi will be present in support of newcomers to the Haas F1 team, Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, both drivers who will debut that weekend.
