Pertl takes the lead, Noël and Pinturault placed

The young Austrian Adrian Pertl created this Sunday the surprise of the 1st round of the men’s slalom of the Cortina d’Ampezzo Worlds by setting the best time in front of the Italian Vinatzer and the Norwegian Foss-Solevaag. Clément Noël and Alexis Pinturault, in ambush, are currently 5th and 7th respectively.

Pertl in front, Noël and Pinturault in the game. The favorites for the gold medal in this men’s slalom which will lower the curtain on Sunday at the Cortina d’Ampezzo Worlds are numerous. Before the start of the 1st round, Adrian Pertl was not on the list of skiers who naturally came in front for victory in this final race of the World Championships. However, it is the 23-year-old Austrian who has only one World Cup podium in his career (in Chamonix in 2020) and has not done better than fourth this season (twice) who created the sensation on this first course by leaving everyone behind after a hot round embellished with an equally supersonic time of 52 ”24 from the one who had been crowned junior world champion in 2017. If he repeats his performance of the morning on the second round, scheduled for 13:30, Pertl will climb again on the highest step. With fourteen competitors less than a second behind the Austrian, the rest of this slalom promises to be extremely tight.

Noël and Pinturault in the game

Second of this 1st round, The Italian Alex Vinatzer, another surprise of the morning, is only 14 hundredths behind Pertl, while the Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag, not necessarily expected either and third for the moment, will start with 16 hundredths behind. Fifth to 34 hundredths, Clément Noël is not much further. The Vosges was not perfect on the first gates, nor was he faultless on the bottom, but that did not prevent him from staying perfectly in the game for the victory. Alexis Pinturault can also believe it. Two days after his big disillusionment with the giant, the Courchevel skier did better than limit the damage despite a small error, with the 7th fastest time at 41 hundredths behind Pertl. Like his young compatriot, he can dream of gold before the second round. For Jean-Baptiste Grange and Victor Muffat-Jeandet, on the other hand, it’s already over. The two men mounted. The Swiss Loïc Meillard and Luca Aerni, who were among the contenders for the title of world champion, also saw their illusions vanish from the first round.
