‘The Diamond’ Poirier (26-6-1), who has an exclusive contract with the UFC, has been with the promotion since 2011 and has faced the best in the 145- and 155-pound categories. In his last contests he beat Max Holloway for the interim title in April last year and then lost without argument to Khabib Nurmagomedov. He finally beat Dan Hooker in June of this year.
While ‘Pitbull’ Freire (23-9-0) is one of Bellator’s fan favorites and after a 7-match winning streak he lost in December 2019 to Tofiq Musayev by unanimous decision.
It would not be the first exchange of stars between Bellator and the UFC: it has happened in the past with figures of the quality of Benson Henderson, Phill Davis, Tito Ortiz, Josh Koscheck, Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson.
