Yesterday we told you that signs appeared on the PlayStation Network that seemed to indicate that The Last of Us: Part II would receive new content, or at least an update. If that got you excited you’ll be happy to know that Sony has already confirmed that it will have a new level of difficulty, as well as new visual filters.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that an update for The Last of Us: Part II is coming soon. This update will be available from August 13 and will mark the return of the Grounded difficulty level. In addition, it will include a permanent death mode.

In case you didn’t know, Grounded is the highest difficulty level available in The Last of Us and the community wanted to see it back in The Last of Us: Part II. The above as it delivers a brutal experience with more powerful enemies and delivering few resources.

As if that weren’t enough, it also removes items from the HUD and takes away your ability to use listen mode to locate enemies.

One important point is that The Last of Us: Part II’s Grounded mode will give you a chance to turn on a permanent death option. With it you will have to finish the game from beginning to end without dying. Of course, there will also be options with some control points.

It is important to note that, on this occasion, Grounded mode will be available from the beginning. That is, it will not be necessary to finish the game to be able to access this brutal difficulty.

The update will add new graphic options

It is worth mentioning that Naughty Dog has also been working on other news for The Last of Us: Part II. Among them you will find new graphics, audio and gameplay options.

Let’s go in parts: among the new graphics options you will find different filters that will let you see the game in different ways. For example, you can play it as a black and white adventure; as if it were an adventure with visuals with cel-shading or even with an 8-bit filter.

On the other hand, there will also be new audio modifiers that will allow you to change « the look and feel of » The Last of Us: Part II.

Also, Naughty Dog added gameplay modifiers that allow you to change elements of the game. For example, you can put the game in mirror mode; activate slow motion; have the option to eliminate enemies with one bullet or have infinite ammo.

Other improvements for The Last of Us: Part II

Another important point is that Naughty Dog also took the opportunity to add some improvements to The Last of Us: Part II.

These are changes made with community feedback in mind. For example, you can now aim with motion control or modify the acceleration of the scope. There will also be gameplay improvements, like one that will help you find the collectibles that are hidden all over Seattle.
