Did you know that Mexico once had a 100,000 peso bill? It was 1985 and it existed for several years.

This banknote was the product of the inflationary period in the country, and was the highest denomination in Mexico, explained this Friday Enrique Quintana, vice president and editorial general director of El Financiero, on W Radio.

This banknote had the effigy of former President Plutarco Elías Calles and the Banco de México (Banxico) building on the obverse, the columnist said.

According to data from Banxico, this 100 thousand peso bill, if it were transferred to the present day, would have a value of 100 pesos.

If we take as a basis the prices of the basic basket in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, according to information from the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), with this ticket you could buy a kilo of chicken (79.90 pesos the minimum price, 92 pesos the maximum price ); two kilos of avocado (49.90 pesos per kilo the maximum price); three kilos of tomato (36.90 pesos the maximum price); or five liters of milk (19 pesos the minimum price).

You could also buy, for example, 10 Zest brand toilet soaps (9.60 pesos the minimum price) or three Dove brand bar soaps (28.50 pesos the minimum price).

Yalitza Aparicio debuted this Thursday as the host of the 2020 Latin Grammy, along with Ana Brenda Contreras and Carlos Rivera.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published this Friday a decree in the Official Gazette of the Federation granting said recognition to these two figures of Mexican sports.
