OM’s great reaction!

After their new defeat in the Champions League, the Marseillais happily returned to the championship by clearly dominating Nantes (3-1) at the Vélodrome. This is the fourth success in a row in the league for OM, which temporarily climbs to the podium.

The meeting between Olympique de Marseille and the FC Nantes was played long before the final whistle, this Saturday, at the Vélodrome. From the start of the match, at least, with the opening of the score Florian Thauvin after less than two minutes of play. And maybe even at the very beginning of the afternoon, when many Phoenician ultras went to the Commanderie to explain to their players that they were waiting for a reaction, after the new mid-week European debacle.

The burst of pride, which Thauvin had called for against Porto, in vain, therefore took place this Saturday. OM made a perfect start to the match, with this goal from the former Bastiais on a bright opening from Valentin Rongier (1-0, 2nd). And without the multiple parades of Alban Lafont (7th, 10th, 22nd…), the second would have arrived well before this center set back by Mickaël Cuisance, quietly taken over by Dimitri Payet (2-0, 35th).

OM prefers L1 to C1 …

Despite a header from Abdoulaye Touré on the bar (41st), Nantes, who had won at the Vélodrome the last two seasons, hardly reacted. Largely domineering for more than an hour, OM worsened the mark, and even allowed themselves to score Dario benedetto -a first this season- on a penalty resulting from a hand fault from Castelletto (3-0, 60th).

The nice reduction in the gap Ludovic Blas (3-1, 74th) will remain anecdotal, because OM have confirmed that Ligue 1 was a playing field that was much more favorable to them than the Champions League. Casually, it is thus the fourth success in a row in the championship for the men of André Villas-Boas, the first, because of the postponements since that painfully brought back from Strasbourg three weeks ago. This time the way was there. And OM is temporarily on the podium. Still in the race… for the Champions League.
